So I know that a lot of you probably already have your places to go to as far as Cloverfield forums go, but I recently decided to retire the blog aspect of projectcloverfield.com, and am now directing users to a new forum.
I namely did this because some of my loyal viewers wanted it, since it would make posting/replying a lot easier than in some comments.

Question about women's Slusho t-shirt?
» 01-18-08I'm curious, does anyone have a Slusho women's t-shirt? Now that they've opened up international orders (though why it's international if it comes from Japan and is shipped to Japan, I don't know..), I'm thinking of ordering one. But I really am curious as to what type of fabric they're made out of. Whether it's a comfortable feminine shirt, or if it's just a smaller version of the men's shirt but made out of the same fabric with a small neckhole.
Anyone care to comment or offer any information? Or a picture of someone wearing one would be GREAT. =) -

If you genuinely feel that you have found a possible IG (in game) website, I want you to do the following:
- Google the domain name! - The first thing you need to do is google the domain name, and see what results come up. Google's bots usually start indexing the moment they're able to get onto the site, so chances are something can came up. Check out the cache version to see what it might've been previously, if it was changed at all. You'll also find out what other sites have been blogging about it. Chances are if it's got anything obvious in the (slusho, 1-18-08) domain name, someone has already written about it and from there you can read how it's a fake/unrelated/OOG (out of game) website.
- Check the domain on whois(.domaintools.com) - Sorry but this isn't really that important, like most people are being lead to. This is just a tool that I recommend to use to find out the site's registration date. I don't care if it's hosted on GoDaddy (because some other sites are.) This is not anything official. It's merely used to debunk it faster than normal, especially if it's created after July 1st, 2007.
- Check the domain on archive.org - If the domain in question has been created for over a few months now (and few being 4 or more) then check out the website's previous content at archive.org. If the site does not allow robots, there won't be anything there, but there is a possibility that an archive may be available. Was it originally a website for selling shoes, or did it have nothing on it until 1-18-08 made it's way to the public? This is an easy way to tell what this domain may have been, before you started obsessing over zomgclues.
- Post about it: If you truly feel that this site is possible after having checked everything above, then yes, you can blog about it here. However, your entry will not remain up if it contains a link telling us to check it out because it may be related. You will need to tell us how you found it, what makes you think it's related, and anything else you want to ramble on about. This is just a failsafe method of ensuring your post isn't spamming the very website you may have created to mislead people.

» 01-18-08I'm sorry if I'm blowing this up to be more than it is, but I'm tired and paranoid and it's 4:30 in the morning. I was just looking for new websites because Abrams is capable of more than any human could imagine, and when I went to [1182008.com], it redirects you to [www.beschutzen.com], a black page with nothing but the words "The Traveler is coming..." Again, I may be paranoid, but it gave me the chills. It's probably nothing, though.
EDIT: I was just seeing what I could do to get more out of it, and if you type in [1182008.com], it says "be patient the time will come soon enough..."

Do you think that it is truly related? If you whois query the pmel.noaa.gov site itself, it's very old, but we're thinking that perhaps the movie is using a preestablished site to "prove" the existence of the monster in the movie. There is a sound clip on the site, that may possibly be the monster itself, or so they want us to believe. Following links on the site, it seems to be a real clip of a real happening, and they're possibly using it for their own benefit.
Going on, if you click on the link on the page for the 'wiki article' on youcantdrinkjustsix.com, which is not an actual wiki article, you find a myspace link to a character involved. There are also photos in his gallery that I haven't seen anywhere else, that include people from the movie's trailer. There seems to be a very old entry on this page, so do you think that it's possible to backdate entries (to throw people off) on myspace, or do you think that they possibly took an already existant account and used it to promote the movie? Or something else?
I'm sure we're not the only people to find this, but I haven't seen it mentioned here before. What do you guys think? Really involved? Fake? The fact that it was registered in the same city as slusho.jp leads me to hope. But is it real, or is it something that was just created by a hardcore fan in Scottsdale (who happened to have some cool pictures?).
Edit: It's fake. That's too bad... but more to look forward to! Does anyone have a link to the second trailer online yet? It sucks living away from America, I tell you!! I tried to get a slusho t-shirt shipped to Japan (where I live), but it wasn't possible. Too bad, really. Funny how they only 'export' them..

At this point, I think I've done just about everything I've wanted to see happen in this community, so I'm going to take the opportunity to officially hang my hat as co-maintainer. Interesting to note that on the bottom of the former donations page if you highlight the space beneath "Return to site" it says: Not all things are as they appear. Dunno if that's the owner(s) maybe admitting that it's a fraud or if does have a connection to the movie and is alluding to the disconnect between the images on the front page and what they actually link to. It's fun in any case.

The trailer appears to be a live news feed of a tv news crew filming in front of the Wonder Wheel on Coney Island when an unexpected explosion accures in the background, the news woman urges the crew to keep filming as they turn their camera in the direction of the explosion.A loud roar is heard but the source never seen but the camera does catch a flaming Wonder Wheel flying in the crews direction just before it blinks out. The film has no title and the trailer ends with the date of 01-18-08 then a "Roar" followed by the words "The Countdown Has Begun"

Slusho store canceling orders
» 01-18-08I know a few of you ordered from the Slusho store too. Check your online record with the credit card you used and see if the charge is there. I ordered with a check card and the charge showed up almost immediately, but I checked again today and the charge disappeared. Looks like they canceled all the orders and didn't bother to tell anyone. I don't know anyone that's gotten a response from customer service either, have any of you had better luck?
Also, I don't remember if it asked me to register when I ordered and I didn't or if the option wasn't available at the time, but I tried logging in to check my order status and it says my e-mail is invalid, so either I didn't register or they deleted my account. Anyone else having similar issues? -

So after I watched the trailer at youtube, it provided me with three links to look into things further. One of them was [www.ethanhaaswasright.com] After clicking on the link it gives an inscription

Clicking on Yes leads me to a 404 page (missing) but clicking on No leads me to a page with a circular object with dozens of what looks like insignias. Another thing on this page that I noticed was that blue star in the upper left hand corner. If you click it, my outlook express opens up with the subject already filled in for you. The subject says "I'm one of you help me!"
Has this already been posted? Has someone sent an email? I'm not sure what to think of it. Once again, if its been posted I'm really sorry!
EDIT i also noticed that theres another star on the right hand side that if you hover, a bunch of symbols appear accross the screen then fade away as you take your mouse away. Mean anythign?
EDIT2 I keep noticing things as I stare at this website, but those symbols at the top of the page, the first one has an a under it and the last one has a z so I was thinking, That if you click the orange object in the middle, find out the order of the symbols that pop out in the order they pop out, and decode the symbols on them with the ones on top you can get something? 1-18-08 wiki project
» 01-18-08Surprisingly, this is my first time posting here, but I'm sure many of you already know me. I've spent the last month trying to keep my blog current and accurate with everything known about this film, filtering out most of the speculation and unsubstantiated rumors floating around, and I assure you, it hasn't been easy. While I admit there are a few other sites that break the news faster than my own, I'm confident that my own remains the best place to catch up on the information that is currently known about this project, especially for those who do not wish to spend time filtering through pages of forums and blogs full of repeated information and speculation. With the recent surge of new information over the past few days (and the new info that will be pouring in over the next six months), it's become apparent that all of this information will not be able to fit on one page and I'm going to have to confine myself to keeping only the most important info on my site, but I believe we still need a place that has a more complete cache of data with everything easy to locate. Of course, this means a wiki.
Before I enter the realm of TL;DR, here's what I'm getting at. Currently there are two 1-18-08 wikis that I'm aware of: slusho.suburbohemia.com and 1-18-08pedia.com. The former only has a few pages of outdated info, while the latter contains a bit more info, but also contains a lot of outdated or false information (and almost no citations). As it would be impossible for me to do this myself, I'm proposing we get a team together to tidy up 1-18-08pedia and make it complete. If you're interested in helping out with this project, contact me, and I'll try to organize everyone and divy out responsibilities to keep things efficient. I'm especially interested in anyone with experience editing Wikipedia articles according to their guidelines, but I'll take all the help I can get.

Possible Puzzle?
» 01-18-08I wish I had more to contribute to this than just a suggestion, but...
That last page on the slusho site where you can "create your own flavor". There's a very distinct "puzzle-feel" to it, don't you think? Of all the "clues" we've had to work with, this is the very first time where a user can provide some interactive input which could very well give us a different result, depending on the combination you select.
Of course, even if there is such a "golden combination", we may not have enough information right now to begin arriving at some foggy idea of what that combination should be. Then again, we might have enough to lead us somewhere close to it.
Researching this possibility may unlock more key info on what this movie may be about. On the other hand, old man Abrams may just be trying to throw us off with some bizzare-yet-erroneous distractions.

For anyone not familiar with LJ-based syndication, it acts in the same manner as any other RSS reader, pulling new posts from the syndicated site to display them on your Friends List. You can add the above feeds as you would any other journal and get periodic updates direct to the Flist, no muss, no fuss, no bother. You should be aware that syndicated feeds do not have moderators, nor do they belong to anyone once they are created, so it isn't "my" feed in any sense other than I plugged in the details to set it up; after that, all concerns/problems with it must be directed to LJ Support. [LJ Syndication FAQ]
Additionally, you'll have to click through to the originating blog posts when they appear to read/make any comments to the blogs themselves. You can comment on LJ feeds, but nobody but other LJ readers will see it.
I do not have the feed URLs (or even know if there are any) for the official 01-18-08 site or Slusho!, so currently they are not set up to pull to LJ. Regardless, I hope the feeds we do have are useful, as at the very least, they eliminate the need to constantly check MySpace for updates. ^_~ -

Obviously "Jamie" has just written the order in the pictures, so we now have one full character's name: Jamie Lascano. Since Myspace is all the rage these days, if you decided to venture on over to check to see if she has a profile up there, and low and behold, there is a Jamie Lascano available. But get this, she's also friends with a Rob Hawkins. Coincidence, are perhaps something legitimate? I think so because Beth has a profile which coincides with her appearance in the beginning of the trailer. There is also another picture of Hawk with his girlfriend Lil.
These profiles are all "friends" with each other, so when you're on one, you can just view their friends to see everyone else's. :)

Correction to be had - it appears the pic on the right is for a comic adapation of a story by Cory Doctorow. The proof of this is in the direct-link name of the pic. I might have stayed speculative, because Newsarama doesn't always label things helpfully, but it bears out. It looks like Greg Grunberg has been cast for the 1-18-08.com movie.One movie that Abrams is casting Grunberg in is the buzzerific disaster flick known only by its myriad working titles (i.e., Cloverfield, 1-18-08, Slusho). "It'll probably be something where no one will be able to tell it's me," he said. "As you know, J.J. calls me his good-luck charm, so he's got to put me in there somewhere. I actually went to the set the other night, and it was really exciting and cool. The budget is not astronomical. But they're doing incredible things."

» 01-18-08OK, I played an online mystery back in 2001 that was a direct tie in to the movie AI. It's members were called Cloudmakers. If you go to www.cloudmakers.org and look under the section other games you'll see that JJ has made an online mystery for alias in the past. I truly feel that he is doing the same for this movie. The game took months and had MANY different aspects, actual phone messages with characters from the game, e-mails sent to players with hidden messages, and what started it all were hidden items in the AI trailer and hidden numbers in the AI movie poster. We might want to get crackin on finding that movie poster and getting a better look at it as well.
Hope I'm right about the level that this game might become.
One last thing, do we have yet, or can we make, an "official" game forum in one site, I can't stand looking @ 5 different sites to get the news on the game, this will really help if things get hectic. -

Significance of empire state builing colored lights in the 01/18/08 trailer
» 01-18-08I don't know if anyone brought this up before, but when viewing the 01/18/08 trailer frame by frame, in the pictures from the rooftop with the kid that has the afro, you can see behind him the empire state building, at least i think it's the empire state building.. The building top is completely green with a red dot on the antenna. Doing some research it appears that during xmas the empire state buildings top floors are green on the bottom and red on the top. The only time it is completely green on the top is on St. Patricks day. Here is a link to that information.

Does anyone have access to new york times archive to check the weather conditions on march 17th 2006 and too see if it was warm enought for the actors to be on that roof top in dresses and tshirts??
There are other specials occasions that dictate different colors on the empire state buildings but I can't find anything else that links it to being all green. Let me know your thoughs on this as I'm not sure if this has any other significance then when the movie was filmed.

Some "Parasite" Thoughts.
» 01-18-08This is kind following my previous entry, as well as some of the Slusho.jp speculation (especially concerning the possibility that the "monster" in question is connected to sea pollution).
Assuming this is a real monster, and not some crazy shared delusion brought along from drinking Slusho (as some have speculated, and I don't believe makes sense for reasons I'll explain later) is it possible the term Parasite is not meant to be taken as literally as some believe? Perhaps the monster is a parasite of the Earth, destroying the world in search of resources, and hates the humans for killing off a good amount of it's food (over fishing ftw) or is surfacing to find more food (like Godzilla in the American modernized movie)
Just a thought anyone can expand on.
Now, for the shared delusion theory that's popped up here and there...
I don't think this could be a "Slusho is infected with something that makes everyone think they're seeing a monster." That would assume that everyone in New York, including the Military would have to drink Slusho. There is not a single food or drink other then water that EVERYONE drinks/eats in New York City. So if it IS something like that, it would have to be in the water.
Unless, of course, it's only a handful of people having one hell of a complicated delusion, seeing explosions and military, which is insane.
As for the Cthulhu idea:
I don't know. This idea was born (presumably) from the period of time everyone thought the Ethan Haas ARG was connected to Cloverfield, and simply stuck after the connection was killed. So far, what we know of the monster was that it is purple, huge and filled with an insane level of hatred. Also, it seems to emerge from the Atlantic (since it is on the East Coast). Cthulhu is supposed to be hiding in the Pacific. This, of course, doesn't mean it has to stay there, but why go all the way to New York City when it can attack L.A.? Also, I don't see a lot of "drive them mad and eat them" going on here, folks. That's pretty much Cthuhlu's MO. Lovecraftian works dealt heavily in the occult and less in the rampaging monster.
Here's the sitch, though, folks: Abrams already has stated that this thing's NOT a remake or a sequel. Any type of Cthulhu story would HAVE to be considered either a remake or sequel of some sort. So, yeah.
This also means many of the other possibilities are debunked, such as (but not excluding) Godzilla, Gamera, and Voltron. It's not happening.
Revelations?
Hmm... I don't know about this one either. It's possible, but not likely. People have been posting Revelations psalms on and off since this thing started. The fact is, when it comes to apocalypse and the Bible, it's not hard to find a connection. All one has to do is LOOK.
Really, to me, it seems to just be about a group of people running from a monster in NYC and catching the whole escape on a camcorder. This is a very cool idea. Why? 'Cause it means the whole thing may be in real time, which is always awesome. It also means that, if done right, it'll really draw you into the movie, making YOU feel like the one holding the camcorder. Not to mention, it -

Manuel tipped me off to a video, which by itself is a little random - people running, military vehicles. But if you notice in one of the shots, there is a Sephora store.
LiveJournal user 1-18-08 found some pictures by Eric Richardson on Flickr, who lives in Los Angeles. He has various pictures of "Filming Notices" by various studios, one of them being Paramount for a movie called Slusho! The notice mentions military vehicles, and 200 extras. The other picture taken at the same time? A fake Sephora store.

Footage I shot on the night those bastards from cloverfield where shooting on my street they where using a megaphone and kept evryone in the building awake for days they also fd'up the traffic like every other big budget movie does (who cares about those stupid taxpayer drivers?) this was also shot in the same location where prime is on the floor at the end of that movie. Slusho people: PLZ contkt m if u can buy the footage.
I think it's funny how he tells the Slusho people about buying the footage. Can't Paramount just get it taken down? -
it's just me, grasping at straws again.
» 01-18-08i was looking at the newest picture on 1-18-08.com and fiddling with it when i noticed something really off about the person on the far right. i cropped the photo and enlarged it to 200%.
take a look at her arm in the photo. notice the shadows and the way the light plays off of it.
the first thing i noticed is that her upper arm/bicep area is far too narrow to be realistic, especially given how thick her wrist and lower arm is. and... it looks like it's being twisted. that, combined with how flat the rest of her arm seems and the abnormal angle of her wrist [and that doesn't even LOOK like a hand], makes her entire arm look like a piece of paper.
well, i know the monster has been nicknamed the parasite behind the scenes, supposedly. and to me, her hand looks like a gaping wound. would it be stretching the truth to far to think that this thing has some sort of leech-like capabilities? perhaps it had gotten ahold of this woman and she managed to get away, but her arm had been leeched. it looks almost like the bones were sucked through her arm like a straw.
