Odette Yustman who plays Beth in the upcoming movie Cloverfield has given an Interview to CQ Magazine.

Along with the short Interview, Odette releases a new “fake”name, monkey, and the reason behind the Cloverfield name. Read on:

Though Odette Yustman stars in J. J. Abrams’s new top-secret screamer, for a while there, even she didn’t know the movie’s title. Abrams printed call sheets tagging the film Cheese, Slusho, Monkey, even Chocolate Outrage. All smoke screens. “I was sworn to secrecy,” says Yustman, “but things kept getting leaked on the Internet. I think there was a mole. It’s called Cloverfield now.” Not exactly bone-chilling. “It’s the name of the street off the freeway where you exit for J.J.’s office.” The 22-year-old Cuban- Californian can’t say much else about the project, except that it features “intimate, terrifying footage of an attack on New York City” and “a monster” or “monsters” she’s never seen. (But she promises the film is scary.) This woman knows gore on an experiential level—and loves it. “I grew up on a farm,” she says. “I’d watch my grandfather shoot our pigs in the head. It was horrifying—until we’d eat them.”

So bad ass Beth has seen pigs brains blow up. If thats any comparison to the CGI monster in Cloverfield then i’ll be damned if its a flop in fear factor.

I’m done

It’s time for a change. I’m officially launching into a full-blown job hunt. I’ve been putting the feelers out for the past few weeks, but now it has become abundantly clear to me that I need to move on and try something else. I’ve put in a lot of time and effort only to be continuously misinterpreted or altogether unnoticed. I’m not opposed to leaving New York, if that’s what it takes. Don’t get me wrong — I love this city. But there are certain elements that I need to get away from before I lose my mind. I’m sick of being the overlooked guy. Sick of being pigeonholed as one thing, when if you would just give me a chance, I know I can be so much more.

You know how you can get totally absorbed with something, and because you are so focused on that one thing, you miss out on other opportunities? I now realize that’s what has been happening here. Or maybe I’ve known it all along and have been living in denial, clinging to that empty hope that things were going to get better. That certain things were meant to happen. Well, whether those things were meant to happen or not, they didn’t. Not for me, at least.

Sometimes, you need to give up.

Richard Cabrera fan art posters 2!

yes folks he’s back with more fan art posters! All credit goes to Richard Cabrera at Moonlight Productions.

The first poster is an image of the monster smashing his hand through an entire building, reaching onto the street. A very dark, demising poster where Richard used a “shake” effect to make it seem as if the Cloverfield camcorder were shooting the monster!

The next was a poster that i asked Richard Cabrera to make, and a damn fine job he did! Richard incorperates central park and the official cloverfield posters “background smashed buildings” to depict a chaotic poster in which the Cloverfield camcorder has been left behind in Central Park!

Whistle Blower memo 2!

Dennis at www.cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com has kindly allowed me to post about the whistle blower memo he recieved. Thanks Dennis!

Here is what Dennis has to say:

I just received a new memo from “The Whistle Blower”, which was sent by email using the Tagruato email address: 18kagashimad@tagruato.jp. I had emailed them a while back asking about the ParafFun recall.

The memo itself is written in Japanese (translation anyone?), but another hand-written message reads:

Americans, No Oil Here! They must have known before they built! - The Whistle Blower

Interestingly, the memo came as a PDF, and the file name is pseunmoisuf.pdf. I Google search for pseunmoisuf doesn’t turn up anything… maybe it is an anagram?

UPDATE: Kosmopol from Unfiction has provided a translation. The document is a financial statement for the third quarter of 2007, with a table of the profits from each drilling station. Conspicuously, missing from the list is the Chuai station.

Cloverfield has had a spot in the “Sci Fi” magazine.

The full article is simply to long to post, so Sci Fi magazine online has created two smaller clips of the article:

“We’ve only had two internal screenings, and one was for a group of people who had not seen the script. All of their reactions, to quote them, was that it was one of the rare occasions where the movie lives up to the trailer. I think people are going to love it. It’s like a nonstop ride. The experience of watching this movie is like nothing I’ve personally ever seen … I hate using bad cliches, but it’s an authentic, visceral thriller.”

… “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves has told MTV News that Paramount has picked his monster flick as the venue to unveil the “Trek” trailer …
IGN: Exclusive: Cloverfield Director Speaks!

… when the first draft of the script came out it was Cloverfield. It’s always been Cloverfield …

… anyone who has seen the clips from the film knows that “Cloverfield” is the case name that the government has assigned to whatever or whoever is doing all that destruction in New York … “In the way that the Manhattan Project was the name of that program, that’s what this is” …

“We really wanted to make a movie where essentially, at the end of the day, it’s this giant monster movie, … and do it in this very [realistic] style as if it was found footage. [You] get to know these characters, and in a certain way [we got to] make a character relationship film.”

IGN: Exclusive: Cloverfield Director Speaks! Part Two

“The inspiration came from the poster of Escape from New York,” says Reeves of that darn head. “The poster had an image on it of the head of the Statue of Liberty and that image was nowhere in the movie! And it’s an incredibly provocative image. And that was the source that inspired [producer] J.J. [Abrams] to say, ‘Now this would be an interesting idea for a movie.’”…
…The idea, according to Reeves, is that since this footage has been found and is unedited, every time the camera cuts out indicates a jump forward in time. And in fact, the only cuts in the film are when the camera gets turned off…

… “That’s the way that our film is incredibly different from Blair Witch … So you’re going to see the monster, you’re going to see huge-scale destruction, you’re going to see a lot of crazy stuff!”

At the last minute, when we were shooting the trailer, we wanted people to know - ’cause we hadn’t created the monster yet - that it was a giant monster movie, we wanted a tease of that. I jumped to the microphone and said the line, “I saw it! It’s alive! It’s huge!” And one of the most amusing things is I had come home and someone on the web had taken that section and started to do an analysis on it and thought I said, “It was a lion.”

[Slusho is] a connection, obviously, back to a reference to Alias and it’s part of the involved connectivity between that and there’s a - I don’t know what you could call it - a sort of “meta-story” that is part of - almost like an origin story - that is connected.

Is it true … the date in the film is actually [1-18-08]? No, that’s not true. The two ways people referred to the movie where by its codename, Cloverfield, because there was knowledge of that, and just by the date. … The date is just the date we come out and when everyone gets to see the movie.

Finnaly the “its a lion” thing has been debunked! Yay!

Lost - 6 - connection?

Hello Everyone.

John Locke down at UnFiction discovered this little easter egg. Or could it be something bigger?

The number 6 make a cameo flash at about 23-24 seconds of the “Lost season 4 trailer”, followed by a picture of a cow…i think? lol. I personally do not, have never, watched Lost.

John Locke Had this to say:

thought this was another interesting side piece, the new trailer for season 4 of lost has the number 6 flas up at about 23 seconds into it, that coupled with a logo for a Hydra makes you think huh? Any how link is here [youtube.com] please feel free to speak your minds, Im not saying look its a definite link but it is wierd, taking into acount the previously discussed hydra theory and all our in game references to the number 6! maybe JJ’s just toying with us but you never know!

This officially debunks the “golden review” found at Unfiction where a member posted a full review of the movie, word for word speech of the characters with lots of cussing. Like i said, how can anyone come home and remember that much, and what everyone said in a movie…especcialy one with “short term memory loss” lol.

Hey Teddy. Uhhh, well, you haven’t called and you haven’t written and I haven’t heard from you in probably about…a month! So, today’s December 9th, and I’m going to open your gift. I wanted to do it on the phone with you, but you haven’t called or responded to any of my text messages…pretty much disappeared from my life, so…
[Grabs gift]
I’m going to open your gift because I gave you my word that I would wait, and here we go.
[Begins to open gift off camera]
Well, at least you’re good at wrapping.
[Grabs scissors to help open the box]
I mean, you can’t even pick up a [mumbled] phone and let me know anything?
[Pulls out a Slusho! hat, tries it on, and tosses it]
Thanks for the hat…You know, most people send jewelry.
[Pulls out a plastic bag with tin foil in it]
“Primary evidence. Freeze ASAP. Jamie, don’t eat this.”

And, um, it’s like they’ve done something, or they’re making something, but look…the point is, I can’t ca…I’m not going to be calling you again. You’re not going to hear from me again. I just want you to wait for Randy. He will explain…”

Having done such work as Harry potter, The Bourne ultimatum, Chronicles of Riddick, Children of men, Stardust and Doom, 007: Casino Royale, Da Vinci Code, and such other movies with fantastic effects. Effects wise, cloverfield should look amazing!

Create a Slusho Commercial, win an Alienware Laptop.

There’s a new section on the Slusho website titled “Contest.”

The contest is to create a 30 second long commercial for “Slusho.” Five of the top entries will win and receive an Alienware laptop valued at $3,000. So much for blowing all of your money on laptops since you wanted that low-budget film (which I still say wasn’t so low budget after all!)

The rules page (contents/rules.html) is currently down due to high server usage for that file, however basically the commercial needs to be “happy” and 30 seconds, no more then a minute. You’ve got to be a legal US resident, ages 18 and up.

Don’t watch their commercial if you want to retain your sanity.

Just saw CLOVERFIELD in a small screening in NYC. IT WAS AWESOME!
I know - you want to know more. Join the fucking club! You also doubt the validity of the claim. Well, I checked with folks to see if it had indeed screened. It was at a Viacom in-house screening with unfinished visual fx.Add to this - a quote that Moriarty heard one day whilst walking the picket lines from a famous type that had seen the film, but was not associated with it, that felt they had just made “STAR WARS”. Now - personally - that’s crazy Hyperbole… isn’t it?The film’s budget is too small for it to be that amazing… right? But… what if? What if there’s a payoff behind the mystery and the buzz. What if we’re a month and a half away from a film that we’ll all remember the promotion for - and remember when nobody knew what it was called… when the world was thinking H.P. Lovecraft and Voltron… and something called SLUSHO? What if, we’re on magic time - getting ready for something… wonderful…. What if? saw you put my review up, so i’m glad it didn’t go to waste! that said, i wanted to let you know, that 2nd review, from the former marine or whatever, is 100% bogus. as incoherent as it is written, from what i was able to decipher, he definitely gets a lot of things wrong. most importantly, the protaganists are definitely not strangers, and the reason for the group moving in the direction they do once the attack is underway is explicitly stated by the leader of the group.

longtime reader, first time writer. i was at one of the Cloverfield screenings in NYC, and while the EFX and music weren’t finished, i don’t think the movie was that far off from being complete. anyway, i am a big Lost fan so JJ Abrams’ involvement, coupled with the amazing viral marketing campaign they have used to promote the film, had me really fired up about seeing the film. just wanted to preface with that before sharing my thoughts, which i will keep as spoiler free as possible:

regarding the monster:
i don’t know how much i want to give away b/c i think people are having a really good time hypothesizing about what the monster is, so let me just say that it’s humongous, it’s ugly, and you do see it in full view - no blair witch kind of thing going on here. SPOILER TAG i can also confirm the presence of smaller monsters (which look like the uglies from starship troopers kind of) / END SPOILER [put that in black on the website if you can]

regarding the story:
again, don’t want to give much plot away, but there is a little of a backstory initially, but it doesn’t take too long to get to the party scene from the trailer, and once the statue of liberty head comes rolling down laffeyette street [i think?], the movie is off and running, with NYC devolving into chaos as people avoid being caught in the path of whatever is destroying their city

regarding the movie itself:
the scares are of the “gotcha!” variety, but that is to be expected given the use of the handheld camera, which, by the way, is your POV the entire film, so those with easy motion sickness be forewarned. there are some pretty funny one liners delivered by our cameraman to offset some of the tension with levity. there are certain plot devices which require a large suspension of disbelief (esp in regards to cell phone usage), but then again, if i’m going to buy in to the fact that a giant monster is ransacking my hometown, who am i to draw any line?

overall i thought it was solid, definitely not great, and certainly not a genre redefinition. then again, my expectations were very high going in, so i might not be the best person to ask. my major critiques were:

1) it was somewhat predictable, and, as i stated before, the scares in the movie are less of the “creeping dread” variety and more of the “gotcha!” type.

2) again, i don’t want to end the hypothesizing fun, but the monster isn’t given much of a backstory or explanation. it just starts tearing NYC a new one one night.

that’s all i got. no need to credit me on this one, just wanted to get a review out there that doesn’t have everyone shouting PLANT!!1!”

Could it be legit…who in hell knows? This dude has stated stuff that we’ve theorised for a pretty long time now but he does he small details that could be true.

A new site has been found! Remember the clues left on the hacked Tagruato site and TIDOO (Tagruato is destroying our oceans) theorie? Turns out this really DOES have something to do with things.

Apparently this “front” is the latest initiative from Les Guerriers de Mère-Terre (warriors of mother Earth) and was founded by conservationist Les Bandit Vert (The Green Bandit).

Also, remember the Tagruato voicemail memorial? Well here is our anwser;

YOSHIDA MEDICAL RESEARCH MOURNS THE LOSS OF MARINE BIOLOGIST

Tagruato suffered a large loss yesterday when Kazui Ichigawa, 63, and his family were found dead early in the morning.

His body, along with the bodies of his wife, Rie Ichigawa, 55, daughter Norika, 36, and granddaughter Kyoko,10, was discovered in the Daisetsu-San National Park at a popular RV camping area. Early word from the police is that it was a gas explosion in their trailer.

In a statement released to the press, press consultant Aki Ito said, “We are shocked and saddened at the sudden passing of perhaps our finest Marine Biologist. Ichigawa was not only an employee, but also a friend. He died with honor.”

His tragic death comes mere days after he abruptly retired from YMR. When informed of that, Ito replied, “It is a shame and a tragedy- this is a man who always put his family first.”

A close friend and co-worker (who asked to remain anonymous) believes that Ichigawa uncovered a magnificent discovery before he retired. “Unfortunately, his computer and files, even ones he kept in his home safe, are nowhere to be found. Tagruato is currently conducting a search for them.”

Ichigawa is survived by his son-in-law, Toshiro, 39, who was away on business at the time of the accident.

No, its not a new Nancy Drew book but it could be a new clue for fellow cloverfieldans to research!

Remember a while back when you ordered something from Slusho you got a japanese newspaper? Well now after the new trailer recent orders have been shipping out with a small Tagruato letter.

Here is translation of the FRONT SIDE of the letter :-
