/Film: Cloverfield/1-18-08: Sources Say The Monster(s) are NOT Raptor-like

Last week DreadCentral reported a rumor from an e-mail spy that claimed to know the identity of the Cloverfield / 1-18-08 / Overnight monster(s).

According to “Mr. Slusho”, much of the movie will revolve around the characters fleeing for their lives, not from the big one stomping the city, but from the “raptor-like” smaller versions hunting them down.

We didn’t publish the report because our sources told us not to run with it. We have now verified with a second source that the report is completely untrue. We love DreadCentral. They have had some good scoops in the past, but this appears to not be one of them. Both of my trusted sources have assured me that raptor like creatures are meant to be in dinosaur movies, and not 1-18-08. So fear not, Cloverfield will not be a repeat of the often mocked American Godzilla film.

Cloverfield News: Dread Central’s Exclusive Cloverfield Info

UPDATE 2: So many conflicting reports with this story so take all of this with a grain of salt, thanks Mick in the chat room and Evan in the comments for pointing this out. Dark Horizons is now reporting that the “raptor like animals” may be true afterall as well as there being no backstory, “the monster appears from the sea in the beginning and disappears back into it at the end”. But seriously, as people are saying in the comments, people posting articles about “knowing a guy in the industry” are getting a little ridiculous, but never the less it stirs up discussion.

UPDATE: Thanks for the comments guys. Looks like Slashfilm had the same lead sent to them, but they were informed by other sources not to run with it as it’s not true. So looks like we won’t be seeing raptor-like creatures running around this movie, go check out Godzilla 1998 for that.

If you haven’t already checked it out, head on over to Dread Central and read the article about their exclusive Cloverfield Info. They claim to have a source “that would have no reason to lie” that has told them a few tid bits about the movie and the monster(s).

WARNING if you don’t want to know what could “possibly” be in the movie, stop reading now.

“It’s not Godzilla or Voltron (duh) or even Cthulu; anyone expecting there to be some sort of elaborately detailed backstory may be in for a disappointment. Expect an old-fashioned monster movie retold in a very modern Blair Witch sort of way - but with a twist. You see that giant monster that emerges from the ocean to begin laying waste to New York City … it didn’t come alone.

According to “Mr. Slusho”, much of the movie will revolve around the characters fleeing for their lives, not from the big one stomping the city, but from the “raptor-like” smaller versions hunting them down.”

So there you have it, take it as you will. Dread Central is a pretty reputable site when it comes to movie news so I really don’t know what to think. But like Johnny states in his article, it would make more sense to have a bunch of smaller monsters terrorizing people than a giant monster, just due to budget constraints, but who knows. Again take this information lightly, althought Dread Central is good at weeding out fake info, you never know.

At 1:30 AM I received the following email...

Triton Enterprises apologizes to our customers and the families of our employees for the recent events at our Washington State facility.

Acts of sabotage to our new facility and our website have taken a heavy toll on our resources and staff. We lost several employees in the brutal act of terrorism including our Press Secretary Kellie Graham.

Data gathered by our internal security teams and Federal law enforcement all point to a small paramilitary group bent on disrupting our work towards a better humanity.

New press secretary Jill Davidge states, "We have moved our research facility off shore to ensure we can continue our work without distraction"

If you had any pending orders with Triton they will be processed as soon as possible. If you were waiting for a job interview we will be in contact with you shortly.
The funny thing is that I received that email from VAN MANTRA (van@ethanhaaswasright.com).

Ten minutes later I receive the virtually identical email, with the first paragraph changed...

Triton Enterprises apologizes to our customers and the families of our employees for the recent events at our Washington State facility and for the recent hack of our email system by the group led by Van Mantra.
...this time from Triton (info@tritonenterprises.com). Note that it's only "info@..." and not "information@...", and "info@..." is a non-existant address. That's error #2.

Furthermore, Triton Enterprises updated their corporate website with another PDF. I haven't looked for clues in it yet, but the first thing of note is the document properties:

Name look familiar? Error #3.

Seems to me like they're now trying to rush things out, and hoping that people will somehow, for whatever reason, latch back on to this ARG.

*EDIT: Even B!X isn't following it anymore...

Time will only tell if this works for them.
