Occam's RazorOccam's razor (sometimes spelled Ockham's razor) is a principle attributed to the 14th-century English logician and Franciscan friar William of Ockham. The principle states that the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the explanatory hypothesis or theory. The principle is often expressed in Latin as the lex parsimoniae ("law of parsimony" or "law of succinctness"):
This is often paraphrased as "All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one." In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest hypothetical entities. It is in this sense that Occam's razor is usually understood.
This might be sailing over the head of those to whom it's directed.
I'm getting in to arguments about whether Cloverfield and EHWR are related. I know they're not, I and others have proven they're not, but people still refuse to accept that. I am stunned at the fact that I have to spend more effort proving that they're NOT related in order to convince the zealots who believe that they are related.
What proof do they have that they are related? Well, there have been three prominent themes:
1) Paramount removing the Van Mantra videos from YouTube. We proved that this was because the person who originally uploaded them mislabeled them as "Cloverfield". When YouTube was instructed to take down anything Cloverfield related, they did so without prejudice.
2) The similarities in IP addresses. Yes, I admit I made that assumption in the past, but that was before I knew for sure it was GoDaddy (who literally has thousands of servers, including some of my own). Also, they are using this reason to accept as authentic other sites, like that "far universe" crap.
3) The media. The media didn't help in this matter. When the Cloverfield trailer came out, they immediately associated it with the hottest, unknown thing on the net: EHWR.com. They had no basis for this assumption, and have since then stopped bringing it up.
So that's all they have that it's linked. And we have volumes of information that they're not linked. Not to mention that they're completely different themes ("monster eats New York" compared to "nineteenth century prophet has visions of the end of the world").
But they still won't listen.
I give up that fight. If you all want to continue with your little hunt, assuming that everything you see is fact and involved in the grant conspiracy that is "Ethan Haas is Cloverfield", knock yourselves out.
For me, I'll continue to play the EHWR ARG, and will continue to be involved in the Cloverfield whatever-it-is, knowing full well that they are separate entities.
Anyway... Game on.
